Nontobeko Ntombela is a curator based in Johannesburg. She is currently enrolled in the History of Art PhD programme at Rhodes University. Ntombela holds a Master of Arts in Fine Arts degree from Wits University, where she also works as a lecturer, in the History of Art department. Before that, Ntombela worked as a curator at the Johannesburg Art Gallery (2010-2012), Durban University of Technology Art Gallery (2006-2010) and BAT Centre Art Galleries, Durban (2002-2006), where she curated a number of exhibitions. Some of her most recent curatorial projects include: Spectaculaire (2013) at Frac des Pays de la Loire, Carquefou France; The Two Talking Yonis (2013) at Constitution Hill (Women’s Jail), Room and Kalashnikovv gallery, Johannesburg, South Africa; A Fragile Archive (2012) at the Johannesburg Art Gallery. In 2010 she was a recipient of the Ford Foundation Fellowship and was the guest curator of the MTN New Contemporaries exhibition.
